Everything you need to know for the Local Area

Everything you need to know about Dog related incidents from Fouling to finding and reporting strays

Who can I contact about dog fouling in a public place?

Dog fouling can be reported via the Horsham District Council (HDC)website: Report a damaged or full dog bin | Horsham District Council or download the HDC app and go to ‘Report it’, Dog Bin Issue.

What should I do if I’m attacked by a dog?

Any dog attacks should be reported immediately to Sussex Police. Their advice is that if there is an immediate threat to human or animal life, call 999. Otherwise report the attack to the Police on 101 or via the Sussex Police reporting form Report a crime | Sussex Police

I’ve found a dog roaming free. Who should I report it to?

Please note that HDC does not employ dog wardens.

If you find a dog roaming free and not being supervised, you can report it to HDC’s approved contractor on 07512 089777 and they will come and collect. This is a 24/7 service, but the dog does need to be contained for them to collect.

You will be asked to provide the following information:

Your name and contact details

A description of the dog, for example its type, colour, size, age

The time and date when you found the dog

Where you found the dog

Where the dog should be collected from (provided the dog is contained.)

I’ve lost my dog. Who can I call?

If you have lost your dog, please report it to Horsham District Council:

During office hours Call us on 01403 215641 or email ehl@horsham.gov.uk

Claiming back a stray dog

Once a dog has been impounded as a stray at the kennels used by the Council, by law an owner has to pay the release fee before the dog is returned. Once you have identified your dog, payment can then be made at the Council offices or at the kennels. On payment of the fee, the dog will then be released to you. Please note, if your dog is kept in the kennels overnight this will be charged as an additional day fee.
