Pulborough Post: We’re Looking for a Volunteer Editor to Join Our Team
Pulborough Post is growing — in readership, in ambition, and in the number of local voices stepping forward to share stories that matter. As our community expands, so does the need for thoughtful, steady editorial leadership.
We’re now inviting applications for a Volunteer Editor to join our small, dedicated team.
This is an opportunity to help shape a publication built on transparency, ethical journalism, and community voice. If you care about local life, fairness, and helping others tell their stories well, you may be exactly who we’re looking for.
What the Role Involves
As a Volunteer Editor, you will:
- Support contributors by reviewing drafts for clarity, accuracy, tone, and structure
- Ensure articles meet Pulborough Post’s high editorial standards
- Help maintain our commitment to transparency, fairness, and responsible reporting
- Work collaboratively with writers, photographers, and community members
- Provide constructive feedback to contributors when suggesting revisions
- Flag any legal, privacy, or sensitivity issues
- Uphold our house style and editorial values
- Contribute to the planning of future content and community features
You don’t need formal journalism training — just a steady hand, good judgement, and a genuine interest in local stories.
We’ll share our skills and experience and give you the opportunity to learn first-hand how modern community journalism works.
What We Offer
Volunteering with Pulborough Post is rewarding and supported.
Here’s what you can expect from us:
- Clear editorial frameworks You’ll work within a fully developed set of Impress‑aligned policies, contributor guidelines, and workflow tools. You won’t be left guessing.
- Training and onboarding We provide a structured induction, including our contributor handbook, editorial standards, and practical guidance on reviewing drafts.
- Collaborative working You’ll join a friendly, purpose‑driven team committed to strengthening community voice. We value discussion, shared decision‑making, and mutual support.
- Flexible involvement You choose how much time you can give. Whether it’s one article a month or several pieces, we’ll work around your availability.
- Skill development You’ll gain experience in editing, governance, community journalism, and ethical reporting — all within a real publication environment.
- Respect, transparency, and care We take contributor wellbeing seriously. If you ever encounter difficult content or challenging situations, we support you fully.
- A chance to make a difference Your work will help ensure Pulborough has a trusted, independent, community‑centred news outlet that reflects local life with accuracy and integrity.
Who We’re Looking For
You might be:
- Someone with writing or editing experience
- Interested in photography or with a keen eye for a good image
- A community‑minded resident who values fairness and clarity
